Stay updated on COVID-19 at Oak Mountain

 The 20/21 ski season will be a little different than what we are used to. COVID-19 safety regulations have changed our normal processes, but we promise to be the fun, affordable family mountain that everyone knows and loves.

In order for us to open, stay open, and keep everyone spread out, we have had to make some changes, that for the most part will streamline the processes to allow more time on the slopes. Your vehicle and your smartphone are now more important than the type of wax you put on!

For COVID-19 safety and state regulations, we are eliminating walk-up ticket purchasing at the lodge, tickets will be available online only. Due to capacity restrictions at the mountain, ticket sales will be limited to a certain inventory for each day. Tickets must be purchased in advance online. Your day ticket will be provided to you upon check-in at the new outdoor ticket window located at the rental lodge. Season Pass holders will get unlimited access to the mountain, but they will need to reserve their ticket online as well.

We’re lucky that wearing protective gear such as gloves, goggles and face masks is already part of the skiing and riding experience. Masks are REQUIRED at all times unless seated to eat or drink, or in an outdoor location where social distancing is readily achievable. You will need to wear a face covering in the lodges (including restrooms, rental and retail areas), in lift lines, on lifts, and whenever you interact with any of our employees. 

We ask that you ski/ride with who you come with. The quad Chairlift has the capacity to hold two singles on either end.  If you are skiing alone and would like to ride alone on the chair we will accommodate for that, otherwise you may ride the chairlift with those you came with.

Indoor space this season will be very limited and we’re asking all of our guests to help out by getting ready at their cars, going straight to the lift, and, where possible, avoiding the lodges entirely. Plan to make your car a mini base lodge and bring snacks with you to refuel throughout the day.  We have rearranged our lodges to reduce capacity in the dining areas by 50%, pursuant to New York State guidance. We will have greeters at lodge access points who will help us comply with these new limitations.

This year, we are asking all guests to minimize the time that they spend indoors, which will reduce everyone’s exposure risk and allow us to accommodate skiers and riders who need to access a lodge to warm up, grab a bite to eat in the Acorn Pub, or use the restroom.  Most guests should be prepared to spend the day outside with new outdoor fire pits, new take-out window where you can order all the concession food and beverage online. If you can't wait for the pick up window, the new summit shack with grab and go treats will be available at the top of the chairlift. Also new this year, the Campstore food truck will be in the parking lot serving tasty treats, close to your car!

Rentals or lessons must be booked online as well in advance as you buy your tickets. Lessons will be private or family-only with an instructor. Rentals will be spread out with only 2 rental customer groups at any one time in the rental shop and require an appointment time.  If you have rented with us before,  the rental process will be streamlined and will have a quick pick-up location.

Know Before You Go - FAQs

 

Face Covering Policy and Health Safety

  • What is the face covering policy at the resort?

We’re lucky that wearing protective gear such as gloves, goggles and face masks is already part of the skiing and riding experience. Masks are required at all times unless seated to eat or drink, or in an outdoor location where social distancing is readily achievable. You will need to wear a face covering in the lodges (including restrooms, rental and retail areas), in lift lines, on lifts, and whenever you interact with any of our employees.

  • What face coverings are acceptable?

Face coverings (masks) must properly cover your nose and mouth with two or more layers of protection at all times. Masks that have holes for your mouth or nose (neoprene ski masks) or single-layer buffs will not satisfy the mask requirement.

  • What does a daily health screening for employees entail?

Each day that an employee works, their temperature is measured, and they are asked a series of questions regarding symptoms they might be experiencing and/or possible exposure to COVID-19. If an employee has an elevated temperature, is exhibiting any symptoms, or has been in contact with anyone with COVID-19, they are not allowed to come to work.

  • What about cleaning and sanitizing in your lodges?

We have introduced new cleaning procedures as recommended by New York State and CDC along with an increased cleaning schedule.

Ticketing

  • Will you require advance ticket purchase or reservations?

  • How far in advance should I purchase lift tickets?

There is no limit to how far in advance you can purchase your lift tickets. There will be a limited number of tickets available, so purchasing early is the best way to ensure you’ll have access to skiing on the day you are planning. 

  • Can you tell us about lift tickets for ages 5 and Under AND 70+ which used to be available only at the ticket window?

Lift tickets for ages 5 and under and 70+ can now be purchased online with the rest of the family. Like our other lift tickets, these must be purchased in advance for the date that you wish to ski. Season passes for 70+ age groups are also now available online.

  • What if I purchase a date-specific lift ticket, lessons, or rentals, and am unable to ski as planned?

We request that any guest who cannot come on their scheduled reservation day due to illness should contact Guest Services at 518.548.3606, as soon as they know they won’t be able to keep their reservation so arrangements can be made to re accommodate during the 2020-21 winter season.  If you are a No Show/No Call, you are subject to a full forfeiture of the total booking.

Parking, Arrival, & Departure

  • Does your mountain have paid parking close to the lodge?

No, we do not have paid parking.  

  • Will there be a place outside to boot up and store belongings?

We recommend being as ready to go out of your car as possible. Please remember to lock valuables in your car. We will not be responsible for any unattended personal items.

  • Are reservations needed for parking?

No, at this time we are not planning on any parking reservation requirements.

  • Can you tell us about your drop off area?

Upon arrival, go directly to the base area entrance to drop off passengers. This area has been expanded to allow more guests to be dropped off. We ask that only drivers park cars.

When leaving the ski area, drivers only should pick up the car. Your party should wait at the drop off area to be picked up.

Lifts

  • How will you maintain social distancing in chairlift lines?

We will have signage near the base of our lifts reminding people to maintain social distancing and to please wear face coverings (masks) while in line. We’ll be asking everyone to do their part and to please wear a mask.

  • Are you limited to who can ride the chairlift together?

We ask that you ski/ride with who you come with. 

Lodges

  • How are you planning on regulating the amount of people in the lodges?

  • What about when the weather is bad? Can I go indoors?

Our lodge and warming tent will be open for you to warm up. However, guests will be limited on their time indoors. This winter will be more about skiing and riding, and less about socializing inside.

  • How will restrooms operate?

Wearing a face covering (mask) is required inside our restrooms. We are asking guests to please limit time and practice social distancing in restrooms.  There will be additional portolets outside as well. 

  • Where can I store my belongings?

We are recommending that you leave your personal belongings in your vehicles. 

Food and Beverage

  • Will dining facilities be open? Will the bar be open?

The Acorn will be open with limited seating capacity inside.  The Acorn Bar will be open, you must order food to order an alcoholic drink.  There will be limited seating as well. 

 

  • Will food be available to order online?

You will be able to order all the concession food menu items online that is off of our website and then you can pick up your order at the new Take Out window located just off the patio next to the lodge entrance.   • Can I bring my own food?

Yes, guests are permitted to bring their own food and utilize their car for eating. Seating within our restaurants and foodservice areas will be for our restaurant guests only.

Lessons

  • What is happening with lessons?

Private Lessons and Family Lessons will be available with online purchases only.  We will not be offering Group Lessons at this time. Guests will be asked to complete the mandatory health screening process upon arrival.  

Rentals

  • What is happening with rentals?

All rentals need to be pre-purchased online.  Guests will be asked to complete the mandatory health screening process upon arrival.  Rental techs will be limited to one family per tech at a time, which is why everyone is asked to follow their appointment time as purchased.  If you don’t need to be sized and have been fitted with us before, your rentals will be ready as pick up items, located just outside the rental lodge. 

Events

  • Will there be special events?

Events for the winter are not presently scheduled. We will continue to monitor the situation and create opportunities for events when they are deemed safe.
